While Nokia have recently tried to position themselves at the cutting edge of environmentally friendly handsets, their new idea, the Nokia Eco Sensor has the potential to cause quite a stir in the fashion and environmentally friendly areas of the market. So what is it all about?
Nokia are planning to release a handset which is made of plant based plastics together with steel which has been recycled. However, the interesting part is the wearable strap which will consist of many solar panels. The system contained within the straps will be able to analyse the local area, environment, users health and weather conditions enabling the user to dictate which low energy friendly sensors they would like to contribute to their handset.
The user will have the option to fully customise their Nokia Eco Sensor mobile phone with a heart rate monitor, walking / running speed reader or other similar attributes which are taken from the strap which is worn around the wrist or the neck. While the long term strategy has not yet been fully explained in detail, it is hoped that the mixture of solar power, low energy services and a highly customisable handset will persuade many that Nokia are ahead of the game with regards to “green” concepts.
At this moment in time the Nokia Eco Sensor is a concept phone only and there is no definite date for release.
